To fill these healthcare roles, the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) conduct Paramedical Recruitment for qualified medical and allied health professionals.

Depending on your qualification, you could be applying for a nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiography, dialysis, ECG, or public health-related post.

The above table highlights an important reality of healthcare recruitment: hospitals generally need far more professionals to deliver routine patient care than they do highly specialised technicians. The vacancy pattern reflects that operational requirement. 

Trend Analysis

The 2026 recruitment is stronger than 2025, with vacancies increasing from 434 to 590 (+35.9%). However, it remains well below 2024, which had 1,376 vacancies across 20 posts.

• Kolkata, Secunderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Prayagraj have the highest vacancy counts, together accounting for 328 vacancies (55.6%).
• Kolkata leads with 98 vacancies, followed by Secunderabad (71), Chennai (65), and Mumbai (61).
• Bhubaneswar, Jammu-Srinagar, Chandigarh, and Ahmedabad have the fewest vacancies, with 5–7 openings each.
• Vacancy distribution is highly uneven, with a small number of RRBs accounting for more than half of the total vacancies, while several RRBs have fewer than 20 openings.

More vacancies can improve opportunities, but candidates should choose an RRB based on both vacancy availability and their preferred posting region.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

This is probably the most important box to tick before anything else.

There is no common qualification here. A nursing candidate, a pharmacy graduate, and a laboratory technician may all appear in the same notification, but they are actually eligible for different posts.

Your qualification decides where you fit in the recruitment.

Age Limit

The minimum age ranges from 18 to 20 years while the maximum age ranges from 33 to 40 years depending on the post applied for. Nursing Superintendent has the highest upper age limit of 40 years. 

Reservation benefits are available for eligible categories as per Government of India guidelines.

However, claiming a reservation is not just about selecting an option in the application form.

Candidates should make sure they have the required certificates and supporting documents ready for verification later in the recruitment process

Nationality

Candidates must be Indian citizens or satisfy the nationality conditions specified by the notification. Certain categories such as citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, and eligible persons of Indian origin may also apply subject to eligibility conditions.

Medical Standards

Every post has a prescribed medical category such as B1, C1, or C2. Candidates who fail the required medical standard cannot be considered for appointment to that post. 

Age Relaxation

Age relaxation is available for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, serving railway employees, and other eligible categories according to recruitment rules. 

Reservation

Reservations for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen are applicable as per Government of India rules and vacancy allocation. 

Many candidates treat eligibility as a formality and focus entirely on exam preparation. However, in specialised recruitments like RRB Paramedical, eligibility itself often acts as the first level of competition by narrowing the candidate pool long before the CBT is conducted.
